Sims and Interior Decoration

Like I said in my previous post, I am currently working as a Personal Shopper/ Interior Decorator. Mainly buying furniture and home essentials and what not. It is a pretty full on job :) but fun,

This was part of how I visualized the end product. It wasn't done to scale, but it does give me a pretty good idea of what I want it to look like.

This is the floor plan-

I started with the first room which is the Guest room.
My client wanted the customized Billy bookcase that costs around 2000++
I wanted to give it a Harvard library meets the philosopher kind of look. This will probably be the Billy Bookcase in black brown fixed with 9 Gruntal cabinet Lightings all from Ikea.
Next, you'd see the kitchen, which already has a built in countertop and a large cabinet for the fridge and microwave to sit in. A rather odd design with an unflattering light brown wood for the paneling.

These are my ideal look for him. A dark brown which makes it look a lot classier I think.
I'd love for him to have a chandelier or some kind of interesting lighting to spark interesting dinner conversations at the table. especially if you're entertaining guests. It'll be a good conversation piece. Swivel bar stools at the kitchen counter are genius! you'd want guests to feel entertained while you're preparing meals, at least by your cooking if not conversation, and they can always swivel around to speak to other guests as well.
For the bachelors and busy work people, this is a quick and fast way to grab a breakfast and run for the door.Sit at the kitchen counter.

Next comes the living room. The main feature of the home. My client has the view of the Melbourne Port, so instead of grass, think of the night lights of chic seafood restaurants reflected by yacht filled ocean waters coming through the balcony.

After doing the 3D model in The Sims, I figured that I should have done it to scale, as the model I made was way bigger than reality, or I didn't get the proportion right. It was still a good visual guide though. I think the black and white look goes well with the ocean. You'd want to go for cool colors or monotone so that you'd pick up the nice blue tinge view of the ocean outside.

Still shopping daily. Whoever said money can't buy happiness. Hasn't worked as a personal shopper.

Interior Decoration 101

I am trained in the arts and creative practices. Specializing in advertising.
However, that leaves quite a broad spectrum of career paths for me, as anything can be done with creative skills. One such project that I have been asked to do is exactly that.

I am a Personal shopper/ Interior Decorator!

How amazing is that? I get paid to shop! hahaha. It sounds like the dream job, but it's not ALL fun and games, it does involve heavy administrative work and good organizational skills. I found that I am really good at organizing stuff for people, not so much for myself.

The Task:
So, my client has just bought a port view apartment unit with 3 rooms. Firstly, I'll explain that an interior designer actually designs the construction of the unit, a decorator simply picks and puts together furnishings and decor. I am working as the decorator, so I am not talking about space design and the actual construction of the unit.

I have to pick the color scheme, make orders to furniture shops, buy the bits and pieces that make it a home, get an electrician, find the discounts, wait for deliveries and manage all the bits and pieces in between.

It is actually a really fun job, as far as my first day went. I was briefed that I would be provided the use of a car, and a sub-credit card. But I'll have to run around and get things organized for my client. So he doesn't have to make all those annoying little decisions.

Solutions: Being the smart and creative person that I am, what would be the best way to visualize the space and decor for the client?

Create a 3-D model in the Sims using the floor plan of the apartment!!
How smart am I"!?
If you think about it, you can totally test and change the design of the rooms with a click of the button.
Example :

After taking some pictures from the actual apartment, and some rough measurements. It's totally doable to just recreate it in The Sims. I even made a lil sim family to represent my client and his partner, along with matching personality and looks. haha, I wonder if any interior companies' ever did that.

Basically, today I've walked around with my client and locked in what he wants for his living room, understanding his taste and advising on basic color balancing elements as well as practical considerations.

From picking out the size, fabric, colour and placement of the couch. Making sure the colour would be easy to match, stain resistant, and brings out the color of the port view. It was actually quite difficult to decide on the handcrafted couch.

Even considerations for a matching coffee table, the dimensions and practicality. How would you add a statement to it, does it match with the client's personal taste. It really isn't easy. Now I totally get why personal shoppers and decorators get paid to do what sounds like fun. It just isn't as easy as we think.

I am still excited about the whole thing. I'll double check with my client if I can post any pictures of his home, but maybe just screenshots of my 3d Model will do :)

Till then, Royce is building knowledge on being an interior decorator!

Lost Merdeka Job

booo. I lost a job that I was supposed to have done in August.

I was supposed to have designed the posters for Eve's Merdeka night. But since Lleufer's gone back to Malaysia, the job kinda went with him.

Oh well, it's just a ride , just a ride, sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down.  (Jem- Just a ride)

So I might as well share my poster layouts I had in mind and get some critiques.

Keep in mind that I was not given any info except that it has a cocktail party theme and it is for Merdeka night, meaning Malaysian motives are necessary.

My first one is called Cocktails & Bars (bars as in bars and lines)

It's a cascading cocktail glass tower with the Malaysian flag bars giving rhythm to the borders.
keeping the National colours of Malaysia, Blue, Red, White and Yellow was the main palette.
Next I played with the concept of a cocktail night. An escapism in another country. Merdeka night in Australia should be about escaping back home for that few hours.
So I created this which I called Starry Nite.

With the Malaysian 14-point star studded sky, and the bars making a gateway into a night of fantasy.
Then I thought it looked a little gaudy and the information should be the main focus point.
So I cleared the dark blue night sky to a muted gray gradient. I added the moon to hold the element together, and a vibrant cocktail with leaves because I wanted an Apple martini right there and then.
.

I really like that apple martini...
And I wanted more. So i thought of how drunk people feel. And i multiplied the glasses, and took the moon and multiplied it in a rotation. Which created an almost fireworks looking motive. It looked more like a party to me. Although not very malaysian.
Finally I simply thought of communicating a simple idea. Come here for drinks. Since the club earns alot from the bar tab. I tried to do a typical oak-wood bar top, decked with cocktails. The logo of the club would be placed on the bar front and the words on top.
I wanted to be ambitious and vector a whole set of alcohol filled cupboards at the back of the bar table. Bottles of wine and beers refrigerated in freezers. But the job fell through.
Too bad.
Comments are much appreciated.

Doodles in bed

I'm serious, I just sat at home all day, finishing a Vulgar cartoon series - (Drawn Together), A gay reality TV show - (Boy meets Boy) and almost done with Hong Kong TVB Drama - (Steps 《舞動全城》)

Yeap been pretty much a bum at home over the easter holidays, with the exception of going out with Derrick, Fiona and her friend-_- to karaoke and then a relaxed housewarming at uncle Carlson's which involved more karaoke. The night ended with a game of bridge into the morning.

That totally FCUK-ed up my sleeytime. As I type this, it's 7.53 am now.And I'm blogging.

Not a very inspiring lifestyle I must say.

But I still created inspiring doodles!

I really like this one~ I call it
Stepping out of the shower

Recently, Cynthia has been unwell, it's quite bad as she had to go to the hospital. But she's doing better now. So I made her a card.

I call it Nurse Naughty

I was also playing around with fashion design.

LoL ~ maybe I'll leave the Fashion world to Winson

And finally, working on a uni Project.

Recognise this Character?

Wow..i'm actually a bumming workaholic. How ironic.

Home alone

Home Alone

Ok I was just going to blog and suddenly I've just had a case of Pissy McPissed!

I'm not PMS-ing but I might as well squirt blood out of my southern regions now.

I've always been afraid that people will know too much about me, that publicizing my blog would do damage to my reputation.

so you know what? I say PHARQUE IT!
I've come a long way from my nerd boy Primary school days when I was known as the Black Doraemon.
I'm not about to let my petty fears get in the way of my full on expression.
i'm supposed to be an artist for Goddess's sakes!

BTW
Here's some of my recent work using water colours while being a total recluse in my studio apartment.
The Peacock Lady
(Watercolour + Pencil)

Liquid Lily
(watercolour + Photoshop)

anyway, another reason why i'm fuming is because of my mother.

not that she did anything wrong..But she's trying to be tooooo RIGHT..as in..RIGHTEOUS!

here's why- this is the email she had to forward to Me,My dad, Rose the Horribla and my Aunt. She's mainly talking to my aunt. here's how she sounds.I'm going to BOLD the annoying words.
:

"Sure glad to know your have met my son. God indeed has a purpose for him there even if it is to help Royce see and appreciate deeper the goodness of God and His blessings He has showered upon Royce all this while. As his mother i am glad he is now willing to learn about budgetting and counting it a blessing to have food and this opportunity to study abroad. Sometimes he forgets that he is but a student on a budget and should be concentrating on his degree rather than on comforts or shopping. God will direct his path and make him strong through it. Praying he will be able to get a good flatmate to share an apartment with after his bond this Feb,2008. Amen.

I remember how wonderful a sis you are when you will bring a cake all the way to Manchester or wherever just to celebrate my birthday for me-especially when i needed a knock on the head to walk with God and not be conformed into the world. I trust God will use a loving heart like yours to hold up those in need of God and His loving presence. I know that God will be watching over you in knowing of your goodness and willingness to obey His will. I will pray His comfort in the Holy Spirit and His joy will fill you everyday to strengthen you for His will and purpose there.

(BLABLABLA -im gonna fast forward)

Life is a challenge indeed. I am ever grateful to our Lord for His grace and love to help me get my perspective in life according to His wisdom. I cannot imagine life without His truth and His guidance. For example, I went on line to book Jetstar to Melbourne and when i was about to click to pay RM 7350 for me and Herman for March trip, i prayed and somehow could not click. instead i was prompted to call Herman first. He was shock at the so call budget travel price and told me we might as well go on MAS for that rate. Thank God! for as usual He helped me before my blunder. In God I will put my trust and hope and pray for His clear direction. Amen.

So now can you see why I'm annoyed! I was hoping for something that would make me feel like it came from home, not something taken from the Bible or a testimonial from The-Fallen-But-Now-In-Salvation Club.

And did you see the last part where I put in Italics. Hello mom! I love you to bits and all, but I don't think that kinda pricing needs Divine Intervention to tell you it's NOT a bargain price.

Oh goddess! my mom needs to star in her own show! I'd call it :

Religiously Blonde~

no wonder I've been voted as Most Likely to have a Blonde Moment on facebook. Cruella! I am after all part blonde. (loves you mom- May you never ever read this blog))
