Journal Therapy: Hero Of My Story

Mood: Afraid
Location: Sydney

Rationale: I've been watching a docu-series on Netflix - Myths & Monsters which discussed the pattern of stories throughout human history. This got me to thinking about how I could use this plotline to influence my subconscious and navigating my 'mindgarden'.

If the purpose of my journal therapy is to create a more orderly, positive landscape within, what better way than to overlay a heroic story for myself, combining my love for creative writing with the emotional need for a relatable storyline. So I shall begin...

---
PART 1: A STORM IS COMING

Once upon a time, there was a young boy, and we use the term 'boy' loosely, as sometimes, he would prefer to be a 'she', not a woman or a girl,  but a more effeminate form of himself, with a large range of states in between. Suddenly conscious of sitting on a stump in the middle of a wide field, a single street lamp shone down from above.

The landscape was dark, the sky above cloudy like a storm was about to arrive, but it seems to have always been like this. Instinct nudged against his mind, a soft alarm to find shelter, a safe space where there would be peace and comfort.

Despite not wanting to leave this familiar spot, There was a fluttering of shadows that he thought must be his friends. They were black ravens, diving sharply from above and right past him.

He cried "Wait! don't leave me alone!", but deaf to his words, they flew onward into the pitch black sky, melting as if they were the same essence of the gloom ahead, leaving him to run in his slow, sluggish footsteps.

In the silent dark, not being able to catch up, it began to feel truly lonely, quiet tears streamed down his face, each drop marked the heavy expression on his face. He had walked so far that his sitting stump was no longer visible. He decided there was no choice but to move ahead, tucking his hair  behind his ears in the blowing winds.

He came upon wild brambles that had strange whispering plants. A wet sheen covered the leaves, reflecting his own blurry image that he realised he had never seen before. What did he actually even look like? He stopped to smell some roses that he liked a lot, he named them and decided they were his sisters. He asked them why was he lost, but each gave him a different reason from their limited understanding. They spoke lovely words and comforted him, but he knew they had not given a true answer as none of them resonated with him. Walking slowly and cautiously, there were also thorns that hurt his feet as he made the journey towards the garden. Again he wanted to stop but had nowhere to rest. A scary lightning snake flashed through the clouds. It zig-zagged across the sky, forked tongue flicking in the quick winds, heralding the storm that was about to break.

He saw a humongous tree far away, towering over layers of growth, he couldn't separate the shadowy outlines of bush and hedges, but could only stumble painfully towards the general direction. He looked back and wondered how far he had journeyed from the beginning, and he wished for someone who could help him. Another lightning snake zapped out of the sky and struck a bush nearby, lighting it on fire. The flame danced and grew, turning into a sparkling form. Long straight tresses revealed a beautiful breath-taking face with an aura so powerful, she must be a goddess!

PART 2: LADY JEWEL

The bright aura was a purple nimbus, shimmering around her long sparkling hair and naked form. She looked at him and asked, "Why are you so sad my child?"

He was afraid, in awe and yet, desperate for a friend. He shyly replied, "Can you help me? I think I'm very lost". She smiled, eyes large and hypnotic, made of embers that gave off no heat but brightened her surroundings. "Do not hold onto your fears, you are stronger than you know, your search will be blessed as it will also bring joy to others, so I will lend you my strength", she said as she held out her hand.

Afraid to be burnt, he crept slowly towards her, wanting to be like her so he could shine a light into the darkness, and bring joy to others so that maybe his friends would return, ending his solitude. He squinted his eyes and touched her flaming hands, the flames didn't burn but instead flowed over his skin and melded through him. The electric fire swallowed him as she and he became one. For the first time, he felt what must be Courage, warming the chilling grip of fear and loneliness. He glowed with an aura of different colours, letting him see more of the path ahead. He heard her voice within, telling him to continue on and not to give up.

Suddenly he floated above the thorny path and could see that the shadowy outlines resolve into a maze of hedges and bushes stretching much further than he first thought. The winds seem to push him ahead like a bubble caught in a breeze. Floating past the last bit of the field's edge, he arrived at the huge leafy wall of the hedge maze. The entrance was to the side, its opening guarded by three large statues, towering over him with a stony gaze that brought some of the dispelled fear back into his heart. Each guardian sent a fierce thought into his mind, challenging him, blocking his path until they deem him worthy to cross.

PART 3: THE GUARDIAN OF BODY

The first guardian statue had a large platform before him, the platform had numbers and an arrow that pointed at 0. When he stood on the platform, that arrow spun to a humongous number, indicating how cumbersome and heavy he was. The guardian said "Thou shalt not pass! you are not the ideal weight", then proceeded to show calculations of the correct size he should be for his current state of being. The guardian struck at his mind and from the impulse blossomed a sense of deep shame. An awareness of his shapeless wobbling form dawned upon him, causing him to suddenly expand and contract just as quickly. He tried running around the walls of the maze, stretching himself this way and that to become the correct shape, but he would always snap back in the wrong position, size and weight.

With a sense of despair, he sat on the judging platform and stared at the large scary numbers, absently he plucked at a nearby fruit and started to chew, then to munch, later to binge on the entire fruit bush before stopping himself. The arrow on the platform swung up and up, numbers growing ever larger, making him panic though he just ate more in response. His mid-section soon bulging like rolls folding on top of each other.

...Will he ever get past the first guardian? tune in next time on my next Journal Therapy entry.

My Secret Lair

I understand a lair to be this dark secret room where one might plot against the whole world or a particular superhero. I do not know if I will be sharing the ambitions of those who actually use lairs, but I definitely would like one.

The way secret lairs have been typically described, tend to be in poor and lousy conditions. Probably trying to link dirt to evil as god is to cleanliness. Yet I think a person who can devote all their time into a personal space that is furthermore kept a secret, would not allow it to fall to dusty disuse.

If I had a lair...

It would be underground, hidden next to a secret garden route to provide cover when I enter my secret base. The entrance shall have to be connected to several locations at the same time via Space wormhole technology. This is in case I feel like eating KFC and Pizza at the Same Time.

My secret lair has a stylish salon as the greeting hall in case someone accidentally drops into my lair from one of the constantly connected locations. This would also serve as the preparation room before entering the proper lair. This gives the reveal an extra dose of awesome.

You walk along the entrance of black mother pearl lined with intricate veins of gold in a graphic representation of goldfishes swimming. The skylight is visual programming to give the impression of night time in the rainforest falls. There are some digital spray mists for a realistic experience.

Your hands wave across an image that illustrates the Haiku of the day, and then Florence and The Machine plays so that you may contemplate the beautiful poetry, all whilst the circular black and gold image of earth that you are standing on begins to rotate into the next section of the wall. You are engulfed in the dark.

Mood lighting softly glows on the ceiling and the spray mists surround you again while rainforest birds serenade, and you do not realize that the mist is actually antibacterial spray. Just another amazingly smart idea of mine to avoid insulting other human beings. I highly recommend this method to all airline personnel that spray canned disinfectant at their customers whilst they are held captive in your cabin.

Back to my lair...

Like the crack of dawn, light creeps into your elevator and the scent of geranium, lavender and rose to accompany you as you step out of the elevator. A large pillar in the center is the first thing to catch your attention because it is a humongous aquarium of tropical fish, jellyfish and my sashimi reserve included.

The interior feels like you've entered into a movie set of a few fantastical locations. The kitchen has a central island that could accommodate a chef staff of 20, in case I need people to reheat my KFC. I bring your attention to the sides of the island have been redesigned into a tiki bar called The Island, and the concept of it is that there are mini people who live on my kitchen island as a real Island, like Hawaii for example. Therefore my alcohol bottles will be redesigned into a classy little bottle-shaped high-rise-huts. The little island alcoholics will live in them.

We both take out the bottles and begin drinking to get the little islanders inside, out. By the time we've got them out, we were so drunk that the health-bot I have lying around began attending to us, but you threw up on it and it malfunctioned. You blacked out and I have to leave you in KFC through my connected wormhole entrance that seals off as soon as I leave you there. There is a personalized Royce chocolate in your pocket to keep you from going hungry.

I continue to enjoy construction on my secret lair.
You wake up drunk in KFC. You want to post your experience up on facebook but you don't remember the details.

Ladies and gentlemen, THAT is how you keep your lair secret.

The End.

Christmas Story

When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones,
and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.

Then Mrs Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and
two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.
Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.
Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum.
When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drank all the cider and hidden the liquor.
In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor.
He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.
Just then the doorbell rang, and irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big
Christmas tree. The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day?
I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?'

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

Bad Luck Streak

Fasten your seatbelts guys.
Royce is in for a bumpy ride.

Almost every year, the stars align to bring me....divinely bad luck.

I am not even kidding how bad this is. Those who have known me for a long time will know what I am talking about.
It is a phenomenon that follows me due to the whole ChanceBender gift/curse I am given.
Refer to my Past post - If you'd like CHANCEBENDER post
The bad luck streaks come with a theme sometimes. The ones that I remember and recorded in my diary are :

1. The 'Missing' Streak - This happened during Form 1 in Secondary school. I remembered that I just couldn't seem to find so many things.
  • My house keys went missing
  • my pencil box along with the stationery somehow fell out of my bag.
  • My homework.
  • My personal diary was missing, which I later found stolen by the crazy/down syndrome boy that sat next to me.
  • My actual teenage diary lol. I got it as a gift when I was 12 ok, and only used it at 15
  • I was MIS-takenly punished for someone else's MIStake.

2. The Car Streak - This was a random series of vehicle related disasters when my little Kancil was in suicide mode. Refer to SUFEER post!
  • I remember rushing to class to meet my project deadline and avoid failing, only to have my car breakdown in the middle of the road. I simply turned my hazard lights on and made a run for it.
  • I received a Summons/Saman two days in a row, one was for a parking ticket that i had PAID for, but flipped over when I shut the door!
  • I woke up half an hour late for an exam, drove halfway to realize I left my handphone at home, drove back for it, received a flat tyre right in front of the house, spent another half an hour changing the car tyre....found that my spare tyre was ALSO a flat. pushed it to the nearest car repair centre, found several more problems with the car, asked my mom to drive over with 200 bucks to pay for the bill, and drove there to spend another 30 mins looking for a car park. I was obviously late for the exam, and I don't know why I bothered anyway.
  • Car almost got repossesed
  • The car brokedown again on the way to lunch with Shaza and JT.
  • When I went to pay my summons, I almost received another one while crossing lanes with a policeman on a motorbike. 'Luckily' he let it pass.

3. The Relationship Streak - This was around the time I was in the second year of college.
  • I got into a real bad fight with Winson and didn't speak to him for months - over beauty products...
  • Then I had an explosion with Rachell which sparked a war of words - over a blog comment...
  • I emotionally exploded and threw a tantrum in front of my mother, grandmother, and aunt - over balancing an account book.
It was like, nothing I did or say could be correctly interpreted and everyone just had to get on my nerves. Perhaps I was having some kind of severe hormonal imbalance... looking back, I still don't understand it.

This year seems like one big bad luck streak on its own. Moving house four times, The honours year pressure and fear of death thing.
However, for some reason it seems to have re-intensified in the last week. I am not going to get into the personal stuff of it. But so far :
  • Throwing my 15000 word draft thesis out the window because I've been using the wrong jargon.
  • The bad timing for renewing my student visa and medical checkup. I have to get an extension for the application deadline.
  • That 1500 dollar gas bill a few posts ago, What the Farge is that? seriously?!
  • I'm late for rent, and I'm financially insecure.
  • I've just asked my parents for the rent, they said they'd pass through a friend of theirs, who's coming down to Melbourne today. This morning, I received an SMS from them saying that same uncle collapsed on the way to the airport, and is now at the hospital?! WTH!?

Somehow, I have a feeling that the bad luck streak is not over...and there is more to come.

A tortured and nervous Royce.

My Chinese Name

I know my surname is really common. But I've never brought myself to wiki it till now.
Who new it was also just as common in Vietnam? and 5th most common surname in China!

WIKI:

Chén (traditional Chinese: ; simplified Chinese: ; pinyin: Chén; Wade-Giles: Ch'en) is one of the most common Chinese family names. It ranks at the 5th most popular surname in Mainland China and the most popular surname in Singapore and Taiwan. Chen is also the most common family name in Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian (spelled Tan or Chin in Singapore and Malaysia), Hong Kong (spelt Chan in Hong Kong) and Macau. It is usually romanised as Chan in Cantonese, and sometimes as Chun. In Min (including dialects of Chaozhou (Teochow), Hainan, Fujian, and Taiwan), the name is pronounced Tan. In Hakka and Toisan, the name is spelled and pronounced as Chin. Some other Romanisations include Zen (from Wu), Ding and Chern

In Vietnam, this surname is written in Quoc Ngu as Trần, and is the second most popular Vietnamese surname, accounting for 11% of the population,[1] after the surname Nguyễn (38.4%).

Chen is also common transliteration of the Hebrew name, חן, often found in Israel. It is pronounced [xɛn], and means grace or favour.[citation ne

For those of you who don't know. I am not very proud of my chinese name as it is pretty old school for modern terms. However, I was named with Royce on my birth cert, unlike many chinese friends I know who simply added an english name to seem posh or something. lol

Anyway, my full chinese name is
陈忠锦

feels like my secret name or something. It's weird to acknowledge this dislocated part of my ancestry. Like a phantom limb, it's something you can't see but feel sometimes. It is part of your identity by virtue of being i your birth certificate and passport. But even those are written in the its phonic form, which I am not going to reveal here.

The middle part of my name means Loyalty. which to a certain degree, I believe to be very much so.

The last part however, has always baffled me. Not so much as to what it means exactly... but what was my grandmother thinking when she chose that character....

  1. brocade, tapestry
  2. embroidered
=
  1. exhibit, display
  2. plead
  3. (archaic) ancient
  4. A surname
My name means Ancient/Displayed Loyal Tapestry. WTH.
Nvm, I'll make it sound glam.

My grandmother believes that each person is like a thread. All our lives are interwoven and connected. Together we create this Ancient, neverending (loyal) tapestry of Life.
Hence my name.

Wow, aren't I good at bull shitting.

Why do these things happen to me?

I can't stop the way fate loves throwing strange and unusual punishment
Look at my recent bill that I've received from AGL (Australian Gas and Lighting)

I received a gas bill for a whopping 1540.08 Aussie dollar!

What on earth happened in my unit to cost 1540$ worth of gas used? Have I been breathing gas and slowly dying for the past 2 months?

And the Ironic highlight of the story.

I am using an electric stove.

Yes people, I don't even use gas. Yet, i am charged a thousand five hundred for my non-existent amenity. Bloody bastards.

I called the help hotline immediately, but apparently they don't support the use of foreign work slaves and child labor, so there was no one to pick up my call on the weekends. I had to stress about it for 2 full days before I could call in.

They finally verified that they billed me for the whole BUILDING'S use of gas. WTH! can we say it with me. WAT THE HELLL! AGL! WTH! AGL! WTH!

They had to put me on hold twice before the issue was finally resolved. I reckon they should give me a 1500 dollars worth of credit and let me use my electricity till kingdom come.

Sigh, this must be karma for walking out of a restaurant without paying. In my defense, it was cause their food sucked and their service was corpse-like. I shall not reveal the name in case the grumpy witchdoctor looking manager comes looking for me. It is one of Melbourne's most awarded cheap eats restaurant ;) avoid it ppl.

High Heels. aren't just for women anymore

http://highheelspassion.blogspot.com/

As you will see in the link I've provided, Men are beginning to push the boundaries of fashion. I agree that there just is not enough of variety for the male wardrobe.

What happened to the many creative costumes of the bygone eras? puffy sleeves and silk capes, kimono tops and punjabi suits . The worldwide traditional wear has been replaced by the generic penguin suits.

I demand variety! I demand that the world breaks down their close-minded view of fashion.
Clothes are an extension of the skin for goodness sake.

You Go Cristiano Ronaldo!
That's what I call a brave man.LOL

How Ads Can Be Entertainment

For some strange reason, this ad really reminds me of William. I think he will be laughing his ass off the ceiling and probably be reciting the words daily.

I know I'm great for finding these for you!

Disturbia (not the movie)

Loving the new Billboard top picks:

Katy Perry - Hot n Cold
David Archuleta - Crush

Rihanna - Disturbia

Disturbia -
Love It~

I'm finally able to upload some pics of Falls Creek trip onto facebook. Personal schedule has not been kind to me.

I'm having a big relief now since I'm having a week's break. Tomorrow am gonna celebrate Merdeka eve at the CQ. It's certainly been awhile since I've clubbed and I'm starting to..(believe it or not) get tired of it.

Gasp. I know. I can't believe it either ~ Have I reached the jaded quarter life crisis?

Nowadays I'm just abuzz with client meetings, group project meetings and commitments.
One such meeting was pretty memorable though..

FUNNY MOMENT:
So Me,Rach,Kristina and Li Fang were meeting up with a client. The client came out of the office and saw us,

Client: "Oh hey, I can't meet with you guys today, I've taken a week off....."

Me: " Oh that's so great! I want to take a week off as well!"( big smiley face and jealous tone)

Client: ".....because of a death in the family."

Me : (Face drops to the floor out of embarassment) "Oh sorry..." (awkward moment)

Li Fang: (She obviously didn't follow the conversation and turned to the upset client and said in a happy tone)
"Oh, that's alrite"

What kind of consolation is that? When I realized what she said I laughed my ass off.
Oh, a death of your loved one? that's alrite, I don't mind. I forgive you...

EL-OH-EL | the funny moments abound.

Royce: (What does that mean? Was that an - Oh,I see? or an - Oh My Gawd ,I'm speaking to an Orangutan?)

Phone :" so what are you currently doing? and where do you live?"

Royce : " I study Advertising at RMIT, and I live in the city."

Phone: "Ahh! Great great. Ok Royce please come to the office in Box Hill on Wednesday. Write this down please. It's number 34-36, *Eulingwithe (didn't hear properly) Parade in Box Hill."

Royce : Writes on a note pad, "Erm, How do you spell that?"

Phone: "E...Double L...(repeats)L..I..N.G..Worth"

Royce: writes -[ E..(Doubleliew?) W..L..I..(and G?) ..G..With] = Ewligwith Parade

Phone:" alrite see you there, please bring your Tax File number,Superannuation and Bank Account Details. Bye."

Royce :"Alrite Bye" looks at notebook (Ok, that's Ewligwith Parade? Boxhill. Bring your Tax File Number,Superannuation and Bank Details...........

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?
"
Why the spelling so weird one? Tax File Number? Do I already have one? I remember applying for a work permit but did it come together? What's super annuation? Super annual ang pau? Super Discount voucher? Superman? Haiya! Pharqatortoise!
)

*Goes back to sleep anyway*

Later found out on the website = Ewligwith Parade doesn't exist (wouldn't ya know it?)

It's actually Ellingworth parade.Ellingworth= Ewligwith>Only Royce can get such info.

I make the mistakes, you learn from it.

I See The Finish Line

Oh My Gourd, So close to finishing the term.
This life is on fast forward and I am rushed towards a crash.

Recently I feel so jaded. Becoming cynical inside for no apparent reason.
Perhaps it's the constant dealing with responsibilities
To tell you the truth, I worry alot about relationships.
Friendships, family, and even in a professional sense.
so I worry and I stress~

By the time I think about what to do with all of this, I feel like this:
I realise it's already Winter...but only because Myra brought me and the group (Gunjan, Sasha, Bhavani, and 2 of sasha's friends) plus Bryce and his boyfriend, to the winter party in some unknown godforsaken lane out back where stray dogs and cats go to die.

Sorry, I digress.

Anyway, I'd love to give you juicy gossip and stuff. But i can't
I'm too busy getting obese

However, I shall attempt to do so!
My attempt at being Scandalslut.

SO let the juicy stuff flow~
  • Someone is planning to lose their Virginity! I caught Miss Soon-To-Be-Unvirgin talking to the doctor on her mobile asking for "the Pill". Don't you just admire people who plan.
  • Someone realized he's bisexual and that he likes this newly outed gay guy, who likes this straight boy that recently turned bad ass... (ooh nasty)
  • Someone decided to team up with her friend, to double ditch their boyfriends. (I've heard of double dates, but this is new)
You guys will have to wonder about their identities,

but I won't say a word.

You know you love me, gossip Royce.
